Hibernian FC Personalised Football Diary
Terrific Diary Gifts for Hibs Fans!
Hibernian FC, commonly shortened to Hibs FC, is a successful Scottish football club based in North Edinburgh. Hibs was one of the first teams to embark upon pre-season tours in America and it also kicked off the tradition of British clubs playing competitive matches on the continent. In 1955, Hibernian became the first British side to take part in European competition, back when clubs were invited based upon the quality of their football and whether their stadium had floodlights.
Domestically, Hibernian is the fierce rival of fellow Edinburgh club, Hearts FC . Both teams faced financial problems throughout the 1980s and in 1990, Wallace Mercer - the director of Hearts FC at the time - suggested the two clubs should merge. Fans of Hibernian protested strongly against this idea and Mercer was forced to abandon his plans. The Edinburgh derby remains a gripping fixture and it is one of the most-watched games in the Scottish Premier League.
Our terrific Personalised Hibernian Diaries can start from the month of your choice and contain twelve fabulous match reports from some of Hibs’ best games from the past fifty years. This interesting collection of newspaper stories will evoke wonderful memories for fans of the club and our A5 Diary is also a great way to learn more about the team’s history for younger supporters.
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Hibernian Diaries feature three wins against Hearts FC in 1989, 1994 and 2005 respectively. The most recent of these Edinburgh derbies will be especially memorable for fans of the Hibees, as an incredible Mixu Paatelainen hat-trick contributed to a stunning 6-2 scoreline, which reflected an outstanding team performance.
Due to Hibernian FC’s attacking brand of football, there have been plenty of matches in the club’s history that have included such a high number of goals. Other thrashings covered in the A5 Diary include the 7-0 win against Partick Thistle in 1966 and the 7-0 mauling of Livingston forty years later. We have also included the two 3-0 victories against Rangers from the 2005/2006 season.
Our popular Diary Gift additionally covers the 2-0 Scottish League Cup Final victory against Dunfermline in 1991 and a variety of fantastic European cup ties. In 1960/1961, Hibernian faced FC Barcelona in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup quarter-final. The first leg, played away at the Nou Camp, was a thrilling match that ended in a 4-4 draw. Hibs finally won the following home leg 3-2, thanks to an 85th minute penalty taken by Bobby Kinloch. In 1970, Hibs FC beat Swedish side Malmo 6-0 and in 1989, Alex Miller masterminded a 3-0 away win to Hungarian club Videoton.
