Dundee United FC was formed in the early 1900s. The club chose Tannadice Park as their stadium and they have remained there ever since, just 170 yards away from the home of rival Dundee FC, Dens Park. The Terrors’ ground has witnessed an abundance of success over the years and during the 1980s, the club also became famous for a variety of entertaining European fixtures. One of the highlights of Dundee United’s travels has been beating FC Barcelona in each of their four meetings - the Terrors are the only British football club to hold such a record against the Catalan giants.

Diary Highlights
These fantastic Personalised Dundee United Diaries include captivating newspaper coverage, beginning back in 1966, when the Terrors went to Barcelona and beat the Catalan club for the first of what would be many times.
Fast-forwarding to the incredibly successful 1980s, the A5 Diary focuses briefly on domestic matters, as in 1983, Dundee United beat fierce rival Dundee FC to become Scottish League Champions and secure their passage back into European cup competitions. The club’s European Cup run the following season would become legendary, as a 1-0 win against Vienna Rapid resulted in a European Cup semi-final against Roma. The Terrors got the best start possible, beating the Italian side 2-0 at home. Unfortunately, the tie would then turn sour in the away leg, as a 0-3 loss would feel even worse for United when it emerged that Roma had tried to bribe the referee.
In 1984, the Terrors drew 2-2 against Manchester United in the third round of the UEFA Cup. The Dundee United Football Diary then skips to 1987, when a great run in the same competition would see United become the first Scottish club to make the UEFA Cup Final. From this exciting European campaign, our A5 Diary includes match reports on the 1-2 away victory against Barcelona, followed by the 0-2 semi-final win versus Borussia Moenchengladbach.
From the 1990s, we have covered the 1-0 Scottish Cup final win against Rangers in 1994 and a magical 4-0 mauling of rival Aberdeen in 1997. Finally, the most recent match report featured in your Diary Gift is the 2-0 victory against Rangers from 2004.
