Crystal Palace Personalised Football Diary
Terrific Diary Gifts for Crystal Palace Fans!
Crystal Palace FC has enjoyed many periods of success since the club reached football’s top flight for the first time in 1969. Although the Eagles moved backwards and forwards between the top two divisions, appearances in the highest league became frequent and the club developed a useful habit of performing well against the best sides whenever they faced them. In 1991, the Eagles reached third place in the First Division - the team’s best position to date. Huge financial problems hit the side seven years later however and Crystal Palace soon found themselves in administration. In 2000, Simon Jordon became owner and rescued the club from the wilderness. The Eagles stormed back through the football leagues, reaching the premiership once again four years later.
Our unique Personalised Crystal Palace Diaries contain a special selection of reproduced newspaper reports from the past fifty years, featuring some of the club’s finest matches and moments. With play-off finals, promotion and the famous FA Cup semi-final of 1990 all included - this is a fantastic gift for a fan of the Eagles.
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Crystal Palace Diaries include two stand-out matches that earned the club promotion to the Premier League. In 1997, Steve Coppell led the Eagles to the play-off finals at Wembley, where the club would face Sheffield United for a place in the top flight. After a tense match, a last gasp goal from David Hopkin won the game for Crystal Palace. In 2004, after the club had gone through a period of administration, the Eagles faced another battle to reach the Premiership. Despite finding themselves in the bottom four at one stage of the season, Crystal Palace guaranteed promotion after a 1-0 home win against West Ham.
Another highlight of this A5 Diary is the selection of reports on FA Cup wins. In 1976, the Eagles enjoyed one of the best ever FA Cup campaigns for a club playing in the Third Division. After beating Leeds and Chelsea, we pick up the action in a 1-0 away win to Sunderland.
In 1990, Crystal Palace played an FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool FC, which many fans of the Eagles describe as their favourite ever match. After being beaten 9-0 by the Reds in an earlier league game, there had been understandable trepidation before the tie. This match was a much closer affair however and in the 109th minute, Alan Pardew scored a vital header which won the match 4-3 and took Crystal Palace to an unexpected final. The team would eventually lose, but the ‘giant-killing’ of Liverpool ensured this FA cup run would be fondly remembered for decades.
The Eagles would actually slay another Premiership giant in the next season, knocking Arsenal out of the completion following a Crystal Palace penalty. This match is of course also incorporated in our Diary Gift.
